One hospitalized after Tuesday’s crash that closed part of I-77
PARKERSBURG — One person remained in the hospital after a two-vehicle accident that closed a portion of Interstate 77 near Williamstown for several hours Tuesday.
The accident happened around 2:40 p.m. Tuesday near the 182-mile marker when a northbound semi collided with a Ford F-150, Wood County Sheriff Rick Woodyard said Thursday.
Approximately 43,000 pounds of bagged lyme or concrete was in the trailer, which came to rest on its side, he said. The cargo had to be unloaded before the trailer could be flipped over by Pifer’s Towing and Recovery, Woodyard said.
A report on the crash said the collision happened when the semi was passing the F-150 in the left lane. It did not indicate weather conditions were a factor in the accident, Woodyard said.
The F-150 was driven by Jeri Galloway, 74, of Walker, who was taken to WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center after the crash. Galloway was still being treated Thursday, a hospital spokesman said.
The semi was driven by Mark A. Williams Sr., 62, of Bay Shore, N.Y. The report did not indicate whether he was transported for treatment.
The report also did not indicate if a citation was issued as a result for the crash, Woodyard said.
The north- and southbound lanes of I-77 were initially closed, Woodyard said. The southbound lanes were able to be reopened shortly, with one northbound lane following after about two hours, he said.
