Parkersburg man arrested after brief standoff
PARKERSBURG — A Parkersburg man was arrested on warrants related to an alleged burglary and firearm violations Thursday afternoon following a brief standoff.
Parkersburg Police detectives went to a residence in the 1100 block of 29th Street around 1 p.m. Thursday after obtaining information that Joseph A. Sams Sr., 32, was likely there, according to a release from Police Chief Matthew Board. Sams was wanted on warrants for burglary, attempt to commit a felony, prohibited person in possession of firearms and use or presentation of a firearm during commission of a felony, all stemming from a Nov. 24 incident, the release said.
Detectives saw Sams open the door of the detached garage, but when he observed them, he closed and barricaded the door, the release said.
The department’s S.W.A.T. Team was notified and negotiations began with Sams, the release said. After about half an hour, he and a female exited the garage and Sams was taken into custody without incident, it said.
Sams was arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court and held on a $150,000 bond, the release said.
