No bomb found after Rinky Dink threat
MARIETTA — The Marietta Police are investigating a bomb threat that happened Sunday at Rinky Dink Flea Market in Marietta.
Rinky Dink owner Billy Putnam called the Marietta Police Sunday, according to Marietta Police Chief Katherine Warden, and told them he received a call from a person “stating that he needed to check the restroom.” In the restroom Putnam found a note stating there was a bomb in the building that would go off at 3 p.m.
The phone call Putnam received was from a shopper who had seen the note on the bathroom wall, according to Warden.
“We got involved around 1:50 p.m.,” she said.
Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy and Explosives Detection Canine Handler Mike Harlow said the Washington County Sheriff’s Office received a request from the Marietta Police for he and his bomb dog Cedric to check the building in which the restroom was located.
Warden said the bomb dog was deployed, the facility at Rinky Dink was evacuated, the building was swept and nothing was found.
“It was all clear,” Harlow confirmed.
A post on Rink Dink’s Facebook page Sunday thanked the flea market’s vendors and customers for their cooperation and for their orderly evacuation.
Warden said at the moment the Marietta Police have no leads or information on who made the threat, but the incident remains under investigation.
“We’re still working on it but there’s no risk to the public at this time,” she said.
The bomb threat has not impacted Rinky Dink’s ability to operate this coming weekend.
“We will be back to normal hours this weekend and Santa and Mrs. Claus will be joining us this coming Saturday,” the business’ Sunday Facebook post said.
