Man arrested for alleged assault of woman at Mound Cemetery
MARIETTA — A man was arrested this week for allegedly assaulting a woman at Mound Cemetery.
Dylan Mitchell Sprague, 22, last known address of Marietta, was arrested Monday for his involvement in an alleged assault at Mound Cemetery, according to Marietta Police Captain Aaron Nedeff.
Sprague was charged with strangulation, felonious assault, aggravated menacing, obstructing official business, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia and was transported to Washington County Jail, according to a Marietta Police media release.
No information was available about whether the charges are felonies or misdemeanors.
Sprague’s arrest stems from a disturbance Marietta Police responded to at Mound Cemetery at approximately 12:47 a.m. Monday, according to the release. Police found a woman seated next to a tree with blood coming out of her mouth and other injuries.
The woman was 22 and had a last known address of Belpre, according to Nedeff. He said the disturbance involved Sprague and the woman, who are “a young homeless couple” who were staying in the cemetery and they “got in a fight.”
“(Sprague) beat her pretty good,” Nedeff said.
Sprague had left the scene, Nedeff said, and according to the release police found him at approximately 4 a.m. at East Muskingum Park and a foot pursuit ensued.
“(Officers) chased him down,” Nedeff said.
The woman’s injuries were serious enough that Sprague was charged with felonious assault, according to Nedeff, but they are not life threatening. He said she was transported to Marietta Memorial Hospital.
The case against Sprague was filed with Marietta Municipal Court on Monday and he was arraigned 8 a.m. Monday, according to court records. He remained in jail as of Wednesday afternoon.
Sprague has a preliminary hearing and a hearing for modification of a temporary protective order set for 1 p.m. Nov. 13 in municipal court, according to court records.
