Car strikes, kills pedestrian in Parkersburg

PARKERSBURG — A report from the Parkersburg Police Department said one person is dead after a vehicle struck a pedestrian Saturday night on Murdoch Avenue.

The release said at approximately 7:02 p.m. a 2010 BMW X5 was traveling north in the 3300 block of Murdoch Avenue while an adult pedestrian was attempting to cross the road just south of the intersection at West Virginia Avenue. The release said the BMW then struck the pedestrian.

The pedestrian did succumb to injuries sustained in the crash at the scene, the release said.

It said all northbound lanes of Murdoch Avenue were closed for approximately two hours while the scene was processed.

The release said the Wood County Crash Team responded and will be conducting the investigation. The name of the driver is not being released at this time due to investigatory reasons. The name of the pedestrian will be released upon contact being made with next of kin.
