Belpre City Council approves ordinances, ambulance purchase
BELPRE — Belpre City Council took action on several measures at its regular meeting Monday evening.
Council approved all three readings of three ordinances: approving the edition and inclusion of ordinances as parts of the city’s codified ordinances; approving the purchase of a new ambulance; and approving the vacating of an alley east of Washington Boulevard and Walnut Avenue.
Council also approved all three readings of a resolution to adopt the city’s employee handbook, a police department policy on lateral transfers and a new information technology cyber security policy.
In her report to council, Mayor Susan Abdella said Belpre’s Tree City USA application is almost complete and shows that 829 hours have been put into the city’s trees so far this year by the Belpre Tree Commission and volunteers. A number of trees from an Ohio Division of Natural Resources grant are in the process of being planted, she said.
The city’s grant committee will be meeting at 4 p.m.m Dec. 12 in the conference room for anyone wishing to attend, Abdella said.
The Holiday Lights Parade in Belpre is scheduled for 6 p.m. Nov. 30 on Washington Boulevard from Belpre High School to Civitan Park.
Abdella said the Ohio Department of Transportation has set up a speed cart on the four lane to collect data on how to prevent accidents in the area. She also asked the utilities and finance committees to begin work on replacing the city’s aging water meter system.
