Authorities identify Ohio man in Muskingum River fatality
DEVOLA — The person who died Oct. 20 in a boating accident on the Muskingum River has been identified, according to an Ohio Department of Natural Resources report.
David Lyle Lashley, 55, of Ohio, address not listed, was the man who died in the accident, according to an ODNR case report that was obtained through a public records request.
The witness to Lashley’s death and the other person on the boat, according to the report, was Guernsey County resident Anthony L. Lashley, 58, of Pleasant City, Ohio.
The accident occurred Oct. 20 at 7:30 p.m., the report said, on the Muskingum River at the Devola Lock and Pool. The report listed the location of the accident as 549 Ohio River Road, 84, Muskingum Township, Washington County.
“On Oct. 20 at 7:30 p.m on the Muskingum River Washington County, two males (were) returning to the ramp when the vessel … appears to have hit (an) object in the water causing the driver and passenger to be ejected,” the report said. “Both subjects were transported to the local hospital in Marietta, Ohio. The passenger was pronounced deceased.”
ODNR Press Secretary Karina Cheung previously told The Times one person who was thrown from the boat was able to pull the other person onboard and then went to a nearby private dock for help. CPR was performed on the person pulled from the water by EMS, according to Cheung, but it was not successful.
The boat involved in the accident was a Lowrance HDS9 powerboat and it has been seized as evidence by ODNR, according to the report.
ODNR personnel, an Ohio Division of Wildlife Officer and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of the accident, Cheung said.
The accident is listed as “not a crime” on the case report.
