MARIETTA – A woman injured in an early Saturday morning shooting in Marietta has been released from the hospital as Marietta Police continue to investigate the incident.
The woman, whose name has not been released, was shot in the face during an incident that happened just before 1 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Advance Auto Parts, 220 Greene St.
"She wasn't armed or anything like that," Marietta Police Capt. Aaron Nedeff said. "As far as we know, she is a bystander."
Police said Saturday that at least four people were firing weapons at each other in the lot and those involved fled the scene. The incident was not believed to be random, and police said there was no general threat to the public.
At least 30 shell casings were recovered from the scene, Nedeff said, and the incident remains under investigation. A possible motive has been determined, but it's too early to release specifics, he said.
"We do have a good deal of information ... but we're getting tips, we're still getting told things, and we're trying to put everything together."
Police are seeking additional information about the incident, including from people who may have had security cameras in the area or whose property was damaged by the gunfire. The police can be reached by phone at 740-376-2007 or online using the police "Tip us off" feature on the City of Marietta website. Tips can be made anonymously.
