MARIETTA -- Marietta police are investigating a shooting that happened earlier this morning and left a woman injured.
According to a release from the Marietta Police Department, officers responded around 12:55 a.m. to Fourth and Putnam streets, where an intoxicated, combative male required medical attention. At that time “they heard numerous shots ring out from the downtown area,” the release said.
Officers responded to the 200 block of Greene St., where they were told the involved parties had fled the scene. A female bystander who had been shot in the face was still conscious and seated in front of The Locker Room, the release said. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Investigators determined at least four people were firing weapons at each other in the parking lot of Advance Auto Parts at 220 Greene St., the release said. Early indications are the incident was not random and there is not any further specific threat to the general public, it said.
The Marietta Police Department is asking anybody with information on the incident to contact them, anonymously if they prefer, at 740-376-2007 or online using the police “Tip us off” feature on the City of Marietta website. Anyone who finds gunshot damage on their property is also asked to make a report.
