Belpre Police chief: No active threat to schools

BELPRE - Belpre Police have determined there was no active threat to the city's schools.
"Everything's been thoroughly investigated," Police Chief Mike Stump said. "Turned out it was kids sharing other social media posts that are going around everywhere."
The post includes a screenshot that has been shared numerous times in multiple areas, he said.
Belpre Police were investigating the matter Thursday night and had an increased presence at Belpre Elementary and High School this morning, Stump said.
Kids who see something online that concerns them should notify a parent or school official or contact law enforcement instead of sharing the content themselves, he said.
"Any information they receive, posts they see, pictures, screenshots that may lead them to believe there may be a threat to a school system, they need to contact law enforcement," Stump said.
Online threats have been reported involving multiple schools in the area and region over the last week-and-a-half.
