WILLIAMSTOWN -- The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources Parkersburg Office is seeking information about a boating hit and run incident that occurred over the weekend.
"Two boats were anchored at about starboard on the (Ohio) River" and a man driving a boat around the "north end of Buckley Island struck one of the anchored vessels," DNR Sgt. Charles Stephens said.
The incident happened at approximately 9:50 p.m. Aug. 24, according to Stephens.
"The two drivers exchanged words" he said, and after they did the man who struck the anchored boat "fled the scene."
The DNR Parkersburg Office has started an investigation and they are working on an accident reconstruction, according to Stephens.
The DNR Parkersburg Office is looking for the public's help for information about the boat the man who struck the anchored vessel was driving, according to Stephens.
They are looking for anybody that has a boat with a white or off-white standard fiberglass hull with damage to the starboard (right) side of the hull, he said.
Hit and run boating accidents do not happen a lot, according to Stephens, and when people do leave the scene it is usually because of a medical emergency.
Stepehns asks that anyone with information about this incident contact the WV DNR Parkersburg Office at 304-420-4550.
He said people can also submit an anonymous tip through the WV DNR website at https://tinyurl.com/2jn5a36b.
