CHARLESTON -- With the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby expected to bring rainfall, high winds and potential flash flooding to West Virginia, Gov. Jim Justice declared a state of preparedness Thursday for all 55 counties.
"While we need the rain in West Virginia, we need to absolutely be ready for the potential impact Tropical Storm Debby may bring," Justice said in a release from his office. "I have ordered our state agencies to prepare to respond immediately if necessary. We're ready to provide all possible resources should flooding or other weather incidents occur."
The state of preparedness allows the West Virginia Emergency Management Division to prepare personnel and resources for quick response to emergencies that may develop, the release said. Coordinating agencies have been placed on standby to report to the State Emergency Operations Center should the need arise.
The Parkersburg area is not expected to be significantly affected, with the only precipitation in the forecast at this point a 30% chance of thunderstorms overnight and this morning. From there, conditions are expected to be sunny and clear through Monday morning.
