PARKERSBURG -- A Raleigh County man wanted for absconding from the Parkersburg Correctional Center will face felony escape charges upon apprehension, officials said Tuesday.
Gregory Dale Stewart, 61, was last seen on Sunday at the Cross Church, 1122 Market St., Parkersburg, the Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation said. The time of the escape was 11:55 a.m., according to the wanted poster from the corrections division.
Stewart was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, jeans and a black baseball cap. He is white, 5-foot-7, weighs 145 pounds and has salt, pepper and brown colored hair, according to the wanted poster.
Stewart was not technically on furlough, but was classified to receive a pass to attend church, spokesman Andy Malinoski said. Stewart is not considered dangerous, Malinoski said.
Upon his return, Stewart will be transferred to the Mt. Olive Correctional Center, Malinoski said. Mt. Olive is located in Fayette County, the state's only maximum security prison.
A warrant was issued for Stewart's arrest from Wood County Magistrate Court for escape, a felony.
Stewart was received into the Parkersburg Correctional Center in February.
He was incarcerated on two counts of breaking and entering under a term of 10-20 years imposed last year. His next parole date is August 2025 and a possible release date in August 2033, according to the corrections division.
