PARKERSBURG - A Parkersburg man was arrested this week on a warrant for first-degree murder in connection with a Lincoln County case.

Police Chief Matt Board said just before 4 a.m. Monday agents with the Parkersburg Narcotics and Violent Crimes Task Force and members of the Uniform Division of the Parkersburg Police Department took Tony Williamson, 35, into custody.

The warrant had been obtained by the West Virginia State Police as part of their investigation of an incident in Lincoln County.

It was determined through investigative leads that Williamson was in the Parkersburg area, Board said. Agents and officers were able to build upon those leads and ultimately took Williamson into custody at a location in the 1400 block of Seventh Street, he said.

Sgt. G.H. Ellis II, with the State Police detachment in Hamlin, said the case involves the discovery of a woman's body in a wooded area of Lincoln County around June 24. Investigators worked to identify the person, including through media reports seeking identification of her tattoos. She has been identified as Marissa Brandjes, he said.

Williamson is being held in the North Central Regional Jail but will have a preliminary hearing in Lincoln County Magistrate Court in the near future, according to Ellis.
