Marietta man facing multiple charges in Parkersburg assault case

PARKERSBURG -- A Marietta man was arraigned for charges of assaulting a woman and taking her car on Wednesday.
Darrell Arthur Yeater, 784 Greene St., Marietta, was arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court on charges of obstruction, assault of a police officer, felony destruction of property and first-degree robbery.
According to the criminal complaint filed in magistrate court, police responded Wednesday to a residence on Packard Street and made contact with two victims. The victims indicated they were trying to leave the residence in a Ford Edge when they were approached by an unknown male subject. The subject opened the car door and demanded the driver get out. They did not and the subject removed them and entered the vehicle.
The other victim said the subject tried to put the car in reverse and the victim tried to push the stop engine button which resulted in the subject hitting them in the face several times with an open and closed fist. The subject then pushed them out of the car and caused them to hit their head on a nearby tree. The subject left in the car, heading north on Packard Street.
Central dispatch sent deputies and officers to Old St. Marys Pike in regards to a suspicious vehicle matching the one taken from Packard Street. Officers were informed of a male subject walking north along Old St. Marys Pike and matching a photo of the subject who took the car. Orders for the subject to come to the officers were ignored. The subject tried to hit one of the deputies and after a brief struggle, the subject was placed under arrest and identified as Yeater.
During an interview with law enforcement, he allegedly admitted to the incident, the criminal complaint said.
He also admitted to attempting to forcibly enter a home located on Deerwalk Highway, using a brick and causing $3,500 damage.
He was being held on $8,000 bond on the charge of robbery in the first degree. Bond will be set in Wood County Circuit Court on the remaining charges.
Action in magistrate court on Thursday dismissed the charges of obstruction and assault on law enforcement in magistrate court as the state intends to prosecute those charges as felonies in Wood County Circuit Court, court records said.
