3-year-old child dies after wandering out of house
PARKERSBURG — A 3-year-old foster child died Monday night after being found unresponsive in the Little Kanawha River, the Wood County Sheriff’s Office announced.
Deputies were dispatched around 8:48 p.m. Monday to the area of 45 Happy Valley Road, Parkersburg, regarding the missing child, the sheriff’s office said in a release on its Facebook page. They requested assistance from the East Wood and Mineral Wells volunteer fire departments.
It was found that the child had wandered out the back door of the house, undetected, the release said. Deputies searching outside discovered the child in the water near a dock.

Camden Clark Ambulance Service took the child to WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center, where the child was later pronounced dead.
Deputies notified Child Protective Services, which is investigating the incident with the sheriff’s office. No foul play is suspected at this time, the release said.
The names of those involved are not being released at this time.
The sheriff’s office extended its condolences to all those involved.
