CHARLESTON - The West Virginia Democratic Party will hold its State Convention June 14-15 at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center, 200 Civic Center Drive.
About 700 delegates are planned for the convention that starts with registration at 3 p.m. Friday, followed by committee meetings starting at 4 p.m., the party announced on Friday.
The opening of the convention will be at 6:30 p.m. and include a call to order, welcome, invocation and pledge. Delegates will receive reports from the Credentials and Rules Committees, elect the permanent convention chair and listen to guest speakers. The evening will continue with Congressional District Caucuses when delegates and alternates to the National Convention will be elected.
The convention will reconvene at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and will include the announcement of Congressional Caucus election results, election of the party leader, elected official delegates, at-large delegates and discussions on resolutions and platform positions.
Immediately following the adjournment, a meeting will be held of the delegates to the National Convention, followed by a meeting of the party executive committee.
All West Virginia Democrats are invited to submit proposed resolutions and platform suggestions for consideration. Proposed resolutions can be emailed to resolutions@wvdemocrats.com and platform suggestions to platform@wvdemocrats.com.
The Platform Committee will meet at 8 p.m. May 30, which will broadcast live at www.youtube.com/wvdemocraticparty.
