PARKERSBURG – On Wednesday morning, detectives with the Parkersburg Police Department were conducting surveillance on a business located on 29th Street in Parkersburg in reference to an ongoing investigation and to apprehend Charles Brian Davis, 49, of Vienna, on several outstanding warrants.
According to a Parkersburg Police press release, at approximately 11:45 a.m. Wednesday detectives observed a gray Kia Sedan leave the business owned and operated by Davis. As the vehicle passed detectives they were able to confirm it was a vehicle registered to Davis and that he was driving.
At that time detectives attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle at the intersection of 29th and Birch streets. Davis then turned onto Birch Street toward the Park Shopping Center and accelerated rapidly, the release said. Davis continued through the Park Shopping Center at a high rate of speed where several pedestrians were present and completely disregarded a stop adjacent to Gabriel Brothers entering Garfield Avenue.
Davis continued at a high rate of speed on Garfield Avenue toward the Memorial Bridge Approach. At the Memorial Bridge Approach, he almost struck a vehicle stopped at the intersection and then turned right onto the bridge. Davis continued across the bridge at approximately 80 mph entering into Belpre.
Davis then turned right onto Main Street and then onto State Route 7 north. The pursuit continued on SR 7 at speeds over 120 mph before turning onto Veto Road, the release said. The pursuit continued onto several side roads off Veto Road where officers lost sight of the vehicle for a short period of time.
The vehicle was then located abandoned at a well location on Vickers Ridge just off Greenhill Road. At that time the Washington County Sheriff’s Department became involved and a perimeter was set up around the area.
At approximately 2:40 p.m. Wednesday Davis was taken into custody by the Washington County Sheriff’s Department in the area of Veto Road and Briggs Hill Road. He was placed in the Washington County Jail for a grand jury indictment from Tuscarawas County, Ohio.
Davis was wanted in West Virginia on warrants from Ritchie and Jackson counties. Additionally, he will be charged with fleeing with reckless indifference by the Parkersburg Police Department. Additional charges related to other investigations are possible.
The Parkersburg Police Department thanked the Washington County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance, the release said.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven otherwise in a court of law, the release said.
