Three-vehicle accident leaves four injured, two seriously

MARIETTA -- A three-vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon left four people injured, two of them seriously.
According to Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Lea Mikes, OSHP received the call for the accident at 3:32 p.m on State Route 7 just south of milepost 31 between Reno and Newport not far from the Willow Island Lock and Dam.
According to Mikes, Alicia Hockenberry, 23, Marietta, was driving a 2009 Nissan and Brenyn Pallisco, 25, Clarington, Ohio, was driving a 2017 Chevy Cruz, and both were traveling southbound on State Route 7.
Mikes said Hockenberry stopped to make a left turn into a private drive and Pallisco "failed to maintain an assured, clear distance" and struck Hockenberry's vehicle, forcing it off the right side of the roadway, where it struck a mailbox and went down an embankment.
She said Pallisco's vehicle spun left of center and was struck by a 2015 Mazda van driven by Betty McFarland, 78, St. Marys, W.Va., that was traveling southbound.
According to Mikes, Pallisco had a passenger in his vehicle, Hana Conger, 29, Sistersville, W.Va. Hockenberry, Pallisco, Conger and McFarland were all injured in the accident.
"Everybody was transported to Marietta Memorial Hospital," she said.
According to Mikes, Hockenberry and Conger had moderate injuries and were treated and released.
"Brenyn Pallisco had serious injuries and was transported by squad from Marietta Memorial Hospital to Grant Hospital in Columbus," Mikes said.
Pallisco ws not the only person seriously injured.
"Betty McFarland had serious injuries and was life-flighted to Grant Hospital in Columbus," Mikes said.
She said all three vehicles in the accident were "severely damaged."
Mikes said the accident is still under investigation and charges are pending.
"Pay attention," Mikes cautioned motorists. "Leave plenty of room in front of you for stopped vehicles."
She said this is especially important with the Memorial Day weekend coming up.
