PUB, Parkersburg Fire Department to test hydrants

2 min read

PARKERSBURG -- The Parkersburg Utility Board and Parkersburg Fire Department will begin testing hydrants next week to determine how much water they can deliver during firefighting events.

Testing typically begins around 9 a.m. and will continue until complete, according to a release from the PUB. The procedure requires water to flow from hydrants for several minutes and pressures to be collected.

The process may result in decreased water pressure and/or discolored water in the distribution system during the testing process, the release said.

Customers who experience discolored water are advised to flush their home or business through a cold water tap at a bathtub or utility sink. If the water does not clear within 10-15 minutes of flushing, customers are asked to contact the PUB offices at 304-424-8535 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. or 304-424-8532 after 4:30 p.m.
