Geppetto Woodcarvers ready to let chips fly at annual Carving on the Porch exhibition

PARKERSBURG -- The Geppetto Woodcarvers club will hold its Carving on the Porch exhibition and display from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at Woodcraft, 4420 Emerson Ave.
The annual event features wood carving demonstrations and an opportunity to learn about the hobby. Club members will be available to discuss tools and resources needed to begin wood carving.
Special guests at this year's event will be members from the Wilderness Center Woodcarvers club of Dover, Ohio.
More than 20 woodcarvers are expected. Admission is free.
On display will be the hand-carved wood quilt by the Geppetto Woodcarvers. The quilt theme is Garden Party and includes 42 hand-carved quilt squares of various wood carving styles.
Available for sale during the event will be one-of-a-kind hand-carved Christmas tree ornaments carved by members of Geppetto Woodcarvers.
The proceeds from the ornament sales go toward the club-sponsored Salvation Army Angel Tree project. Since the inception of this project, more than $6,000 has been raised to provide Christmas gifts to children in need.
Geppetto Woodcarvers meet from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. second Saturdays of the month at Woodcraft for its monthly carving program. The club also meets 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesdays at Woodcraft for open carving.
The club has partnered with the Blennerhassett Museum to offer evening wood-carving sessions from 6-8 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month. New wood carvers and carvers of all abilities are invited to attend any of these carving sessions.
