Update: Ohio River crests revised upward

The City of Marietta closed Front Street this afternoon to assist businesses preparing for flooding.

The National Weather Service predicts the Ohio River will crest at 40.5 feet Thursday afternoon. Flood stage is 35 feet.

The Muskingum River is expected to crest this afternoon at 35 feet, according to the weather service. Flood stage is 29 feet.

Fort Frye Local and Frontier Local Schools in Washington County were closed, along with Pleasants, Tyler and Wetzel County schools in West Virginia.

The Ohio River at Parkersburg was approaching 35 feet as of 1:45 p.m., with flood stage at 36 feet, according to the weather service. It’s projected to crest at 40.7 feet overnight into Friday morning.
