PARKERSBURG — A man who fled from police Thursday evening was apprehended early Friday morning.

Brandon Cody Burton, 24, of Parkersburg, was charged with fleeing from an officer on foot and fleeing from an officer in a vehicle after being taken into custody, according to a release from the Parkersburg Police Department.

His girlfriend, Ryann Lynn Eddy, 23, of Parkersburg, was also arrested and charged with accessory to a crime after the fact.

Officers were initially notified around 6:43 p.m. Thursday that Burton’s bond on a third-degree sexual assault charge had been revoked and he was potentially in possession of a firearm, the release said.

Officers located a vehicle in which Burton was traveling in the area of 29th Street and Harrison Avenue. He was observed fleeing on foot and officers engaged in a foot pursuit through neighborhoods in the north end of Parkersburg and into Johnson T. Janes Park, the release said.

Visual contact with Burton was lost after he crossed a deep portion of Worthington Creek.

A large-scale search commenced for Burton with the assistance of the Wood County Sheriff’s Office and West Virginia State Police. Through that and other investigative measures, it was determined that he was in the Dry Run Road/Red Hill Road areas outside the city, the release said.

Around 2:15 a.m. Friday, the vehicle Burton had been traveling in earlier was observed in those areas. When the vehicle went onto U.S. 50 and then Interstate 77, Parkersburg Police initiated a traffic stop, but the vehicle continued north on I-77 for approximately three miles.

The vehicle pulled over just past mile marker 184, but Burton, who was behind the wheel, was uncooperative and had to be physically removed from the car and forcibly handcuffed, the release said.

Eddy was a passenger during the pursuit, but was identified as having driven the vehicle to pick Burton up earlier, the release said.

Burton is being held without bond at the North Central Regional Jail in Doddridge County. Eddy was released on $12,000 bond.

Starting at $2.99/week.
