PARKERSBURG -- The City of Parkersburg Building Enforcement Agency took action on 18 properties at its recent meeting, voting in favor of demolition of two and removing one from its agenda after issues were addressed.
According to a release from Mayor Tom Joyce, the BEA chairman, the board voted on March 4 to remove 1915 Spring St. after property owners John and Vicki Huffman remediated previously identified deficiencies and code violations. Chief Code Official Andy Nestor thanked the Huffmans for their "prompt and effective response" in the release.
The board -- which includes the fire chief, city engineer, public works director, development director, code director and a representative of the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department -- voted to demolish 922 Lynn St. and 1038 24th St. due to slum and blight issues.
They agreed representatives for the other 15 properties should appear before the BEA for updates on remediation progress in the future.
"In seven years as mayor and chair of the BEA, the practice has been and remains to afford property owners the opportunity to remediate their properties with a focus on progress being made and reasonable time be given for such progress," Joyce said.
