RIPLEY – A Ripley man is being charged with the death of an infant, the Jackson County Sheriff's Department announced this morning.
John Michael Tames, of Ripley, was arraigned Monday on a count of death of a child by parent, guardian or custodian after 3-month-old "Baby Everly," as the sheriff's office is referring to her, died, Sheriff Ross Mellinger said during a press conference. The child had been on life support for 30 days.
"I hope the judge absolutely hammers him when the day comes," Mellinger said.
Tames was arrested in January on a charge of child abuse by a parent, guardian or custodian causing serious bodily injury and held on a $250,000 bond at the South Central Regional Jail. Bond was set at $500,000 for the new charge.
