BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Appalachian Regional Commission Federal Co-Chairwoman Gayle Manchin has been discharged from an Alabama hospital after a car accident earlier this week.
Manchin's husband, U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and the ARC announced her discharge Wednesday evening.
"My wife Gayle has been discharged from UAB (University of Alabama-Birmingham) Hospital and is being taken care of by family members in West Virginia," Sen. Manchin said. "We want to thank everyone for the outpouring of support. Our prayers are with Guy Land as he continues to receive excellent care at UAB Hospital."
Land is an ARC congressional liaison who was a passenger in the car with Gayle Manchin when it was struck Monday in North Birmingham by a vehicle driven by a suspect fleeing from police. Land and Manchin were en route to an ARC grant workshop.
