Anonymous tip, traffic stop lead to Wood County suspect’s arrest

David A. Gibson

PARKERSBURG — A local man who has been on the run for over a day after fleeing Wood County Sheriff’s deputies was arrested Wednesday, according to a press release from the department posted on its Facebook page.

David A. Gibson, 30, of Parkersburg, was arrested Wednesday in the 800 block of Hill Street on felony warrants for fleeing in a vehicle with reckless disregard, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and receiving or transferring stolen property.

Gibson was taken into custody after law enforcement officials received an anonymous tip of his whereabouts, according to the press release.

On Monday, Wood County Sheriff’s Deputy D. Alltop attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Spark at Roth Road and U.S. 50 for reckless driving behaviors, another post from the sheriff’s department said.

The vehicle failed to yield, and a pursuit was initiated. The vehicle continued on Roth Road before ultimately crashing at the end of it. Gibson, who was identified as the driver, exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

Gibson also had an active felony warrant from Monongalia County.

After his arrest, Gibson was arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court and was placed on a $50,000 cash only bond by Magistrate Jody Purkey and confined to the North Central Regional Jail.

Starting at $3.70/week.
