BELPRE -- Belpre City Council held its first regular meeting of 2024 on Monday evening, with several new and returning members taking their seats.
The members and new mayor Susan Abdella were sworn in during an organizational meeting on Jan. 1 and held their first business meeting Monday.
For the coming year, the committee chairs include; Finance/Audit, Dave Ferguson; Police and Fire, Lyndsay Dennis; Streets, Sidewalks and Storm Sewer, Bill Locke; Utilities, John Ambrozy; Parks and Recreation, Rick Seebaugh; Planning and Zoning/Economic Development, Nate Godfrey; and Rules, Penne Riffle.
Council voted to make Dennis council president pro tem and Riffle as council secretary pro tem to serve in those positions in the event the regular council president or secretary are absent from a council meeting.
Abdella said the position of safety-service director is open since it is an appointment of the mayor. As of Monday, three resumes had been turned in to the city building and more will be accepted for a few weeks before a decision is made, she said.
Abdella said she would also like council and the city to review and update its water and sewer regulations in the coming year.
A Finance Committee meeting will be held at 6:45 p.m. Jan. 22 prior to the next council meeting to discuss an ordinance approving supplemental appropriations for the start of the new year.
