W.Va. man killed in crash near Gallipolis

GALLIPOLIS - One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash Friday night near Gallipolis, the Gallipolis Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

Jacob Reed, 25, of Scott Depot, W.Va., was killed when the car he was in was struck head-on by a pickup truck going the wrong way on Ohio 35 at Ohio 735 in Gallipolis Township in Gallia County, the patrol said.

A 2006 Chevrolet Silverado being driven westbound in the eastbound lanes of Ohio 735 by Harlan Jones, 85, Gallipolis, was going the wrong way as it entered onto Ohio 35 and collided head-on with a 2008 Ford Escape going east on Ohio 35 and driven by Valerie Gress, 25, Winfield, W.Va., the patrol said.

Reed, a front-seat passenger in Gress' vehicle, was killed at the scene, the patrol said.

Jones and Gress were taken to Holzer ER in Gallipolis, the patrol said. Gress was then taken to Grant Medical Center in Columbus.

The crash happened shortly before 7:30 p.m. and remains under investigation, the patrol said.

The Gallia County Sheriff's Department, the Gallia County Coroner, the Gallipolis Police and Fire departments, Gallia County and Mason County, W.Va., EMS units and Red's Towing assisted at the scene, the patrol said.
