Suspect in Vienna double murder takes own life in Ohio

VIENNA — An investigation into Friday shootings that resulted in two deaths, followed by the suspect apparently taking his own life early Saturday morning, remains ongoing.
However, Vienna Police Chief Mike Pifer said Sunday that “I don’t have any reason to believe there are any other parties involved at this time.”
Officers were dispatched around 4:40 p.m. Friday to 1003 38th St. after a family member found two people who apparently died from gunshot wounds, according to a release from the Vienna Police Department.
Investigators identified the deceased as Thomas J. Platt, 45, of Parkersburg, and Christy L. Roseberry, 43, of Vienna, the release said. Their bodies were taken to the Office of the West Virginia Medical Examiner for autopsies.
Investigators processing the scene and interviewing witnesses identified Stevie W. Roseberry, 46, of Belpre, as a suspect, Pifer said. He was the estranged husband of Christy L. Roseberry.
Surrounding law enforcement agencies were notified to be on the lookout for the suspect and U.S. Marshals arrived to assist with the search, the Vienna Police release said. Investigators were able to secure an arrest warrant for him on a charge of first-degree murder.
The release said Stevie Roseberry was found at the Comfort Inn in Bellefontaine, Ohio, about two-and-a-half hours away north of Springfield, the release said. U.S. Marshals coordinated with local authorities there to execute the warrant around 2:15 a.m. Saturday.
Authorities attempted to contact the suspect inside a hotel room when they heard what they believed to be a single gunshot, the release said. It was quickly discovered that the suspect apparently died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, it said.
Pifer said the vehicles of the victims have been secured, and Vienna Police will coordinate with authorities in Bellefontaine to obtain evidence from there. Stevie Roseberry’s body is expected to undergo an autopsy in Ohio as well, he said.
Vienna Police were assisted by multiple agencies, including the Parkersburg, Williamstown and Belpre police departments, the Wood and Washington County sheriff’s offices, the West Virginia State Police and authorities from Bellefontaine.
