PARKERSBURG -- Dr. Cathy Dailey has been appointed to the vacant District 9 seat on Parkersburg City Council.
Mayor Tom Joyce said he chose Dailey Wednesday morning from three candidates submitted to him by the city Republican executive committee following the resignation of Councilman Ray Eubanks in November.
He received the names on Friday and met with Dailey, Matthew Dodrill and Alisa Prince Monday and Tuesday.
"(Dr.) Dailey was passionate about the community," Joyce said. "She is intelligent and focused. I believe she will serve the city and (District) 9 well."
Dailey, a pediatric specialist, could not immediately be reached for comment Wednesday. She has been appointed to serve the remainder of the term, which is on the ballot in 2024.
Eubanks served for about 16 months after being appointed to the seat in July 2022. He submitted his letter of resignation last month, saying he'd received "an assignment from (God) to build a congregation that shows the love of the Lord Jesus."
His predecessor, Austin Richards, was elected in 2020 but had to step down when he moved out of the district.
Council's final meeting of 2023 is on Tuesday, a week earlier than the usual fourth-Tuesday-of-the-month slot due to Christmas. Members will vote on a president and vice president for 2024.
