PARKERSBURG -- The Wood County Commission tentatively approved the closure of a road that only appears on local maps.
Commissioners Blair Couch and Bob Tebay approved the measure to close Lorain Street in Williams District. Commissioner Jimmy Colombo was absent.
"It is a paper road," Couch said.
The road was mapped, but never developed or paved.
Officials were waiting for an adjacent property owner to review the paperwork with his attorney. If there are no concerns, the measure would be passed to close the roadway.
If the road is closed, the adjacent property owners would evenly split the land.
Attorney Dave Palmer, who represents one of the landowners, said his client wanted to reconfigure their four lots and they would not be able to do that until the road was closed.
Commissioners also wanted to be sure another property owner would not be landlocked with the closure of the road. A driveway accesses that property and county officials want to be sure the property owner has title to the driveway.
