BELPRE -- The city of Belpre will be under the administration of a new mayor following Tuesday's general election in Ohio, with current councilmember Susan Abdella leading in Tuesday night's results.

Other Belpre races on the ballot saw a mixture of new and returning office holders.

The four candidates running for the office of mayor of Belpre included current council member Floyd Alan Millhone, James Nelson, Abdella and Romel Henderson. Mayor Michael Lorentz did not seek re-election, although he did run for a seat on Belpre City Council.

With all four Belpre precincts reporting, the unofficial vote totals from Tuesday's election are; Millhone, 188, Nelson, 514, Abdella, 940, and Henderson, 380.

In the Belpre municipal election, several offices were on the ballot for the general election.

For Belpre City Council, two races were unopposed, as were two city offices. In the Third Ward, incumbent council member Lyndsay Dennis ran unopposed for another term and received 467 votes. In the Fourth Ward, John Ambrozy ran unopposed after defeating incumbent Steve Null in the primary and received 449 votes on Tuesday. The other unopposed offices were Larry Martin for Council President with 1,580 votes and Thomas Webster for Law Director with 1,389 votes.

In the First Ward, write-in candidate Alexandra Lowe was not listed by name on the ballot but 18 write-in votes were cast. Former council member William Locke received 340 votes for the open seat, returning him to council.

In the Second Ward, both candidates, Richard Seebaugh and Erica Campbell, are write-ins. No individual vote totals were listed on the ballot, only that 95 write-in votes were cast so the winner was still undetermined at deadline Tuesday night..

In the At Large races, four candidates are running for three open seats, including incumbent council member David Ferguson, former council member Penne Riffle, outgoing mayor Michael Lorentz and newcomer Nathaniel Godfrey.

In Tuesday's unofficial election results, Ferguson received 1,072 votes, Riffle received 963 votes, Lorentz received 829 votes and Godfrey received 1,047 votes, meaning Lorentz will not be serving on council.

In the Belpre City Schools Board of Education race, three candidates are running for two seats on the school board.

The candidates include incumbent Cathy O'Donnell and candidates Larry Lorentz and Frank Meredith IV. Current board member Brenda Church did not seek re-election.

In Tuesday's unofficial results, O'Donnell received 1.222 votes, Larry Lorentz received 1.247 votes and Meredith received 921 votes, meaning O'Donnell will return to the board and will be joined by Lorentz.
