ST. MARYS — The Pleasants County Agricultural Youth Fair will be kicking off its 24th annual season this weekend.

The fair starts Friday with a cutest baby contest as well as pumpkin decorating and pie contests. The fair will also have several children’s activities including free inflatables, kiddie rides, and airbrush tattoos.

The fun continues Saturday with the fair’s opening ceremony at 10 a.m. and several music acts playing on the fair stage including Jake Binegar, Moon King, the Matt VanFossen Band, Plan B, and Midnight Outlaws. Also happening Saturday is the Blennerhassett Corvette Club Car Show, ATV Drag Racing, and a Demolition Derby.

“We have several activities planned this year,” Pleasants County Extension Agent Alyson Carozza said about this year’s fair schedule. “There are activities for everyone, from children to adults. Everyone’s got activities to enjoy!”

New to the fair this year is the Mountaineer Safari Petting Zoo and Alpaca Run Farm. The Dino-Roar Program will be making a comeback this year having three shows at the fair Sunday afternoon.

“The Dino-Roar program isn’t new to the fair, but they’ve expanded their program for the fair on Sunday,” Carozza said. “It was a big hit for the fair last year.”

Also new to the fair this year is the expansion of the two-day fair to three days.

“We’ve expanded it into Friday because of the amount of 4-H and FFA Livestock shows we have this year,” said Carozza. “It’s good to be growing!”

The fair will be taking place between two areas as they have done in previous years; the St. Marys Marina and the St. Marys High School Barn with a shuttle wagon offered to take fair attendees between the two locations. But this year the local Pleasants County Historical Society is hosting a history exhibit, separate from the fair, and will also be included in this year’s wagon shuttle service.

Admission is $5 per person per day, and children under the age of 5 are admitted free. For more information about the fair and contest registrations, go to the fair website at www.pleasantscountyfair.com or visit the Pleasants County Agricultural Youth Fair Facebook page.
