UPDATE: Missing West Virginia 13-year-old found

UPDATE: The West Virginia State Police said Saturday afternoon that 13-year-old Michael B. Cheek has been placed in the custody of the state Department of Health and Human Resources.

His biological father, Michael A. Cheek, was located Saturday on Interstate 77 in the Fairplain area of Jackson County. He took troopers to a residence near the Jackson/Roane County line, where his son was found, according to a news release from the State Police.

CHARLESTON — On Friday, the West Virginia State Police initiated an investigation into a missing 13-year-old white male, Michael B. Cheek.

He was last seen on Wednesday, Aug. 30, in Ripley. He is believed to be with his biological father, the suspect, Michael A. Cheek, who does not have guardianship.

Michael A. Cheek is a 38-year-old white male. The juvenile male is believed to be in danger and unable to receive medical care due to neither parent having legal custody. The suspect is believed to be driving a 2017, Ford Fusion, maroon in color, bearing GA license plate YJG486. The suspect could possibly be in the Roane, Jackson, or Kanawha County areas.
