Wood County BOE conducts special meeting

PARKERSBURG -- The Wood County Board of Education held a special meeting Wednesday to approve personnel and financial matters ahead of the start of the school year next week and to interview candidates for the open position on the Parkersburg and Wood County Public Library Board.
The board changed its policy on outside appointments after a group of citizens voiced their concerns about how those appointments were made during a regular meeting in May.
The Selection Process for Appointments to Outside Entities now includes a two-week advertisement for potential appointees who will be reviewed, and finalists will then be interviewed by the board.
The board went into executive session after approving the consent agenda to conduct the 20-minute interviews with the six possible candidates.
The board didn't make any decisions after coming back from the interviews but Board President Justin Raber said an action item would be added to the agenda for the board's regular meeting on Aug. 22 to name their choice.
Board member Debbie Hendershot said there were many great applicants and that the decision wouldn't be easy. Board member Judy Johnson also thought there were excellent candidates who applied for the position.
"Not only the candidates we interviewed today, but the people that applied during the whole application process, I think have been great," Johnson said. "We have outstanding candidates, and we have outstanding people we interviewed, and I just appreciate everybody who applied."
The next Wood County Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Aug. 22 at 6 p.m. at the Wood County Schools Central Office at 1210 13th St. in Parkersburg. The meeting is open to the public and will be streamed online.

* Approval of the Depository Agreement with Wesbanco
* Payment application #033 to CMTA Inc., in the amount of $33,101.35 for Wood County School Guaranteed Energy Savings Contract.
* Payment application #13 to Grae Con Construction Inc., in the amount of $139,209.63 for the BES Addition
* Payment application #11 to Grae Con Construction Inc., in the amount of $4,206.96 for the Blennerhassett Secure Entry.
* Payment application #1 to Grae Con Construction Inc., in the amount of $30,555.69 for the Jefferson Auditorium.
* Payment application #3 to Murray Sheet Metal Co. Inc., in the amount of $1,117,639.90 for the Edison HVAC
* Change Order #2 from Phoenix Associates Inc., A credit in the amount of $6,565.00 for the BES Plenum Fan Replacement.
* Memorandum of Understanding Early College between West Virginia University at Parkersburg and the three Wood County Schools high schools: Parkersburg High School, Parkersburg South High School, and Williamtown Middle/High School.
* The lease of WMHS Soccer Field with Lewis D. Huggins and Sharon Huggins for property to be used by the tenant (WCS) as an athletic field and for other purposes consistent with athletic fields including but not limited to the sales of concessions, dressing facilities, and placement of bleachers with rent to be due from the tenant to the landlord the cost of $1.
* Pre-K Community Partner Agreements for the 2023-2024 academic year for Joyful Sound and Precious Angels.
