West Virginia reports first COVID death in three weeks

CHARLESTON — The first death attributed to the COVID-19 coronavirus in three weeks in West Virginia was reported Wednesday by the Department of Health and Human Resources.

The department reported the death of a 90-year-old woman from Putnam County.

It was the first death reported by the state since the department’s July 19 pandemic update. Seven people were reported as COVID fatalities the week before.

The death count since the pandemic started was at 8,164 residents Wednesday in West Virginia, according to the department.

The department recommends those 6 months and older stay up-to-date with COVID-19 vaccinations. At this time, to stay up-to-date, one Omicron (bivalent) COVID-19 shot is recommended for most people ages 6 and older. Those 6 months through 5 years have more specific recommendations. Those 65 and older and those who are moderately to severely immunocompromised are also eligible for at least one additional Omicron COVID-19 shot for updated protection.

Starting at $2.99/week.
