West Virginia officials report four COVID-19 deaths
CHARLESTON — Four people died from the COVID-19 coronavirus in West Virginia in the last week, the Department of Health and Human Resources said.
The department in Wednesday morning’s weekly COVID-19 update reported the deaths of an 82-year-old man from Cabell County, a 94-year-old man from Brooke County, a 66-year-old woman from Kanawha County and a 61-year-old man from Monongalia County.
Updates went to once a week on Wednesday mornings with the end of the federal COVID-19 health emergency in May.
The death count since the pandemic started more than three years ago was at 8,167 people in West Virginia as of Wednesday, the state said.
Residents 6 months and older are recommended by the state to stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccinations. At this time, one omicron (bivalent) COVID-19 shot is recommended for most people ages 6 and older. Those 6 months through 5 years have more specific recommendations. Those 65 and older and those who are moderately to severely immunocompromised are also eligible for at least one additional omicron COVID-19 shot for updated protection.
