ATHENS, Ohio – The National Weather Service confirmed this afternoon that a tornado touched down Saturday night in Athens County.
According to the Public Information Statement issued by the service’s Charleston office, the tornado was designated an EF1, with maximum winds up to 100 mph. It touched down on Angel Ridge Road southeast of Athens, then tracked north-northeast before lifting just past Kincade Road, nearly three miles away.
Damage was limited to snapped and uprooted trees and some snapped power lines, the Weather Service statement said.
