CHARLESTON — No deaths from the COVID-19 coronavirus were reported in the last week, the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reported on Wednesday.
The death count since the pandemic started three years ago in West Virginia remained at 8,156 people. Status reports have moved to once a week on Wednesdays with the end of the federal pandemic emergency in May.
The department recommends West Virginians 6 months and older stay up-to-date with COVID-19 vaccinations. At this time, to stay up-to-date, one Omicron (bivalent) COVID-19 shot is recommended for most people 6 and older. Those 6 months through 5 years have more specific recommendations.
Those 65 and older and those who are moderately to severely immunocompromised also are eligible for at least one additional Omicron COVID-19 shot for updated protection.
