PARKERSBURG -- Motorists can start registering for Memorial Bridge transponder accounts next week.
The toll bridge between Parkersburg and Belpre is set to reopen this fall after a $50 million rehabilitation project to extend its useful life at least another five decades.
It was purchased last year from the City of Parkersburg by Memorial Bridge Partners, a subsidiary of United Bridge Partners.
The company is installing a completely electronic tolling system, so motorists will not have to stop when crossing. Tolls will be assessed by scanning a transponder or photographing a vehicle's license plate and sending a bill.
One trip across will be $1 for transponders, including Parkersburg Bridge Partners' MOV Pass system. The transponder comes as a sticker affixed to the inside of the windshield.
People can obtain transponder stickers by registering for accounts online, in person or by phone starting Tuesday, Aug. 1. Details about the registration process will be announced Tuesday via email to customers who preregistered, as well as on the company's website, parkersburgbridgepartners.com, and social media.
People with tickets purchased before the bridge closed last spring can receive a $1 credit for each ticket, but they must submit them all at once and set up their account in person, according to a release from Parkersburg Bridge Partners.
When creating an account, drivers will need:
* Valid vehicle registration for each vehicle requesting an MOV Pass showing make, model, color and license plate numbers.
* A credit or debit card.
* Valid photo ID (in person only)
* Previously purchased toll tickets to receive MOV Pass credit. All tickets must be submitted at once (in person only).
The MOV Pass, or other funded transponder accounts within the EZ Pass network, will guarantee drivers the lowest rate. MOV Pass offers a $30-a-month unlimited crossing option.
Vehicles that cross without a transponder will have their license plates scanned and an invoice sent by mail. That will include an administrative charges that raise the price of a crossing to $4.50.
