MARIETTA — New information about a stabbing that took place on July 16 in downtown Marietta has been released by the Marietta Police Department.

Although the department originally reported that a suspect had been arrested and charged in the case, Capt. Ryan Huffman said it is still under investigation.

It was reported three females approached an officer at 2:30 a.m. with visible injuries and indicated they had been stabbed by another female on the corner of Front and Green streets. It was then reported that a suspect was located in the 100 block of Front Street, detained, questioned and then arrested and taken to the Washington County Jail.

Huffman clarified that person was not arrested or charged at the time, and that the department is still investigating the incident.

Huffman said one victim was still in the hospital, another was checked out and released and the third was never seen by medical professionals. He said investigators have viewed a surveillance video of the incident and that they are awaiting a copy from the owner. He said the video shows a large group involved in the incident and that if anyone has information on the case to call the Marietta Police Department at 740-376-2007 and ask for Detective Derek Tewanger.
