CHARLESTON -- A 54-year-old woman from Wood County is among the deaths confirmed in the last week from the COVID-19 coronavirus, the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reported Wednesday in its weekly virus update.
Four more deaths have been confirmed since last week's report, the department said.
In addition to the Wood County woman, the department has confirmed the the deaths of a 72-year-old woman in Nicholas County, an 84-year-old man from Summers County and a 97-year old man from Kanawha County.
The death toll from the virus since the pandemic started more than three years ago was at 8,140 residents as of Wednesday.
The federal public virus emergency expired May 11. The state has received 184 cases of the virus in the last week, the Department of Health and Human Resources said.
