VIENNA -- A Vienna man charged with attempted murder was one of 70 indictments handed down Thursday by the Wood County Grand Jury.
Charles Eugene Moore, 44, originally of 3008 3rd Ave., Vienna, and now incarcerated at the Salem Correctional Center, was indicted on charges of attempted murder, malicious assault, battery and unlawful restraint from November 2022.
According to the criminal complaint, Vienna Police responded to 3008 Third Ave. in Vienna on Nov. 20 in reference to a welfare check.
Moore allegedly contacted someone to come pick up Joseph Davis from the home, using Davis' phone to call them and "stated that he had beat up the victim," according to the criminal complaint.
The complainant went to Moore's home and found Davis' vehicle parked there and waited for officers to arrive.
"Officers observed a puddle of blood and a pair of glasses outside the vehicle, leading to the defendant's residence," the criminal complaint said.
Officers made contact with Moore who would not consent to officers searching the home and stated no one was there.
Moore was observed with blood on his hands and pants and officers entered the home because they believed someone's life could be in immediate danger.
Officers found Davis on the floor, covered in blood.
"The victim had significant swelling on his face, black eyes and injuries to his hands," the criminal complaint said. "There was a bloody baseball bat and blood splatter next to the victim.
"The victim stated that the defendant had beat him with a baseball bat and would not allow him to leave."
