CHARLESTON -- Eight people were confirmed as deaths from the COVID-19 virus in the past week in West Virginia, the Department of Health and Human Resources reported Wednesday.
The death toll since the pandemic began more than three years ago is 8,125 in West Virginia, the department said in its weekly update. Updates were changed from daily to weekly with the expiration of the pandemic health emergencies, which end on Thursday.
The state has confirmed the deaths of a 77-year-old man from McDowell County, a 76-year-old woman from Barbour County, an 89-year-old woman from Brooke County, a 74-year-old woman from Lewis County, a 91-year-old woman from Kanawha County, an 81-year-old woman from Kanawha County, a 69-year-old man from Raleigh County and a 55-year-old man from Raleigh County.
Wood, Wirt, Jackson, Gilmer, Roane, Calhoun, Doddridge, Tyler, Wetzel and Pleasants counties are ranked low on the Centers for Disease Control Community Levels risk charts.
