PARKERSBURG -- The Wood County Board of Education met briefly Tuesday for a statutory meeting to approve levy rates for fiscal 2024.
The rates were presented at the March 14 meeting and have been approved by the State Auditor.
The Wood County Schools Excess Levy Call, also known as a continuing or renewal levy, has been in place since 1945 and has been renewed every five years by local voters.
The continuing levy will be 18.36 cents for Class I property, 36.72 cents for Class II property, 73.44 cents for Class III property and 73.44 cents for Class IV property based on each class of property per $100 valuation.
A letter sent to the board on March 17 by State Auditor John McCuskey said the levy rates were "legally authorized by a vote of the people" and that "the proper rates of levy are being used to retire any existing general obligation bond debt, and that such total debt is within the limits prescribed by the West Virginia Constitution and Code."
Board President Justin Raber said the next step is to send it back to the State Auditor to be approved.
