CHARLESTON -- Three people from the region were among the 24 confirmed deaths from the COVID-19 coronavirus in the last week, the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reported.
The deaths include a 51-year-old woman from Wetzel County, a 74-year-old man from Jackson County and a 76-year-old man from Jackson County, the department said.
Also confirmed were a 75-year-old man from Nicholas County, a 48-year-old man from Kanawha County, a 78-year-old man from Kanawha County, a 57-year-old woman from Mercer County, a 74-year-old woman from Raleigh County, a 94-year-old woman from Morgan County, a 69-year-old man from Summers County, a 96-year-old woman from Raleigh County, an 83-year-old woman from Cabell County, a 76-year-old woman from Kanawha County, a 71-year-old man from Barbour County, an 89-year-old woman from Braxton County, an 84-year-old man from Cabell County, an 88-year-old man from Monroe County, a 97-year-old man from Monongalia County, a 65-year-old man from Mason County, an 85-year-old woman from Raleigh County, a 90-year-old woman from Wayne County, a 58-year-old woman from Kanawha County, an 83-year-old woman from Raleigh County and a 91-year-old man from Kanawha County.
The death toll as of Wednesday since the pandemic started more than three years ago was at 8,067 people in West Virginia.
The state reported 111 people were in a hospital on Wednesday with COVID-19. Sixteen were in an intensive care unit and eight were on a ventilator.
