Morrisey announces run for governor

HARPERS FERRY–Attorney General Patrick Morrisey announced Tuesday, from his home county of Jefferson, that he plans to seek the Republican nomination for Governor of West Virginia.

Morrisey made the announcement to a packed room at the Clarion Inn in Harpers Ferry where he told those gathered that he is humbled by the support he has received since he took public office and is now ready to serve as governor.

“I’m the only proven conservative in this race,” Morrisey said, adding that as governor, he will continue to protect jobs and fight to put more money in the pockets of West Virginia residents.

“I will be a super charger for economic and workforce growth,” he went on, adding that he will continue to support advancements in education excellence and to fight the drug problems in the state.

“I’ll have your back and uphold your conservative values,” Morrisey told a cheering crowd. “West Virginia is worth fighting for,” he went on as he expressed his deep and abiding passion for the Mountain State.

Morrisey used his record as Attorney General to define how he will continue to serve West Virginia citizens when he is in the Governor’s seat.

“I have delivered on big projects and I know how to drain the swamp,” he said, sharing that his record is strong in many areas where he has defended his conservative values.

Among examples he cited were his defense of the sanctity of human life and the defense of the state’s abortion laws. He referred to gun rights in the state, pointing out that West Virginia has reciprocity with 38 other states. He spoke of his fiscal responsibility in running the AG’s office where, he said, there are some of the lowest attorney fees in the nation.

“I will run the executive branch with the same mentality–we will save millions going after waste and abuse,” he touted.

“This is not an entry level job,” he stressed. “It needs a proven conservative fighter and winner and I am that person,” he told the crowd. “Everyone running is going to say they can do things, but no one except me can back it up with action,” he went on, labeling himself as a conservative, a fighter and a winner.

“Whether we are battling against the swamps of D.C. or Charleston, I’ll have your back and will uphold your conservative values,” he reiterated. “I will fight to help those suffering from the ravages of inflation and help lift West Virginia out of the poverty that plagues us,” he said.

Morrisey told supporters that the state workforce and population are key priorities for the next governor. He shared that his goal is to keep young people in the state and to encourage other young families to locate in West Virginia. Areas of concern include education and what Morrisey termed the “brainwashing in our schools.”

“Liberals can’t debate with us so they try to indoctrinate our children. We will not let them,” he said, adding that as governor he will work to pay teachers fairly and recruit more teachers.

He also has plans to improve broadband.

“People won’t move to our state if the internet moves at the speed of ‘slow,'” he said.

Several times during his remarks, Morrisey referred to stopping the “woke” policies and federal overreach–sentiments that earned him cheers and standing ovations.

Morrisey has served as the state’s Attorney General since 2012, where he has become nationally known as a leader in the fight against federal overreach and on behalf of conservative values. He has been successful in many cases including ones against pharmaceutical companies for their part in the drug problems in the nation and has brought record financial settlements to West Virginia.
