PARKERSBURG -- A Parkersburg man is being held in jail after leading police on a high-speed chase through town Monday evening.
Aaron Michael Hart, 1604 Foley Ave., Parkersburg, was arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court before Magistrate Robin Waters on a charge of fleeing with reckless disregard for the safety of others and was being held on $100,000 bond.
In the criminal complaint, written by Officer DP Janssen of the Parkersburg Police Department, Janssen responded Monday to the area of 13th and Lynn streets in reference to a disorderly motorist.
Janssen observed a motorcycle traveling north on Lynn Street passing 16th Street. Janssen traveled west on 14th Street and once at the intersection of Lynn Street the officer observed the motorcycle accelerate onto 16th Street westbound, according to the complaint.
Janssen got behind the motorcycle at the red light of 16th Street and St. Marys Avenue with emergency lights activated. Hart then proceeded to do a burnout behind a vehicle, Janssen said. He activated the emergency siren to which Hart turned over his right shoulder and observed the officer. Hart then made a right turn and cut through the Go Mart parking lot and made a right turn on 17th Street, according to the criminal complaint.
While on 17th Street Hart ran the stop signs at 17th and Lynn streets, 17th and Latrobe streets and 17th Street and Park Avenue before making a left turn on Oak Street, according to the complaint. Once on Oak Street, Hart accelerated to speeds of 60 mph in a 25 mph zone.
Hart ran the stop signs at Oak and 19th streets, Oak and 20th streets and Oak Street and Washington Avenue before turning left onto 23rd Street and reaching speeds of 70 mph then making a left onto Fairview until making a right onto Broad St., Janssen wrote.
Hart traveled on Broad St and then made a right turn onto 36th Street and then a left turn on Cypress Street. He then made a quick left turn from Cypress onto 38th Street and merged onto Liberty Street.
While on Liberty Street Hart reached speeds of 60 mph before running the traffic light at Emerson and Rosemar avenues. He continued straight onto Rosemar from Liberty and then made a left turn onto Sayre Avenue.
''Once on Sayre Avenue the (defendant) drove through the front yard of 4813 Sayre Ave. before laying the bike down onto an embankment and fleeing into the woods on foot,'' Janssen wrote. ''The (defendant) tripped over a log in the woods and was apprehended at this time.''
