Jim Jordan speaks at Mooney Parkersburg event

PARKERSBURG -- U.S. Rep. Alex Mooney, R-W.Va., made in a stop in Parkersburg Friday to talk to Wood County residents about his upcoming run for the U.S. Senate.

Mooney was joined by U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, former West Virginia State Delegate Roger Conley and Parkersburg City Council President Sharon Kuhl.

"I'm not here to back anyone," Kuhl said. "But I am here to back any conservative who believes in God, believes in the United States of America, and believes every city in the United States deserves a chance. No more defunding of the police. No more taking away any more rights. No more hurting us. No more opening up the people of, I'm going to say Parkersburg, Vienna, Williamstown, no more opening them up and putting them in danger."

Kuhl talked about the struggles she said the city council has faced with the court ruling saying they were no longer allowed to say the Lord's Prayer in chambers. She said the prayer had been said in chambers since 1970 and it was taking away her right away as a Christian.

"Half you're heart is gone, you feel like you've been violated," Kuhl said. "Because this something you had believed in all of your life. We can not let this happen anymore."

Conley spoke about about how Republicans have taken control of Congress.

"But we're not done yet," Conley said. "We still have to get the Senate. It's imperative. We still got to get the White House. It's imperative. The only way we save our country, folks, is to get control of all three. And we got guys right here in the room tonight that's going to be on the front lines to make sure that happens."

Conley said every major office in West Virginia is being held by Republicans and that was something to be proud of. He said there was almost 10,000 more registered Republican voters in Wood County than the next political party.

"To win any state-wide office, you gotta take the road that goes through Wood County, West Virginia," Conley said. "We elect Republicans. We elect conservatives that are going to stand up and fight for the values that we're losing."

Conley said the people of Wood County have to make sure U.S. Senator Joe Manchin "goes away".

"I believe firmly that Joe has lost his mojo," Conley said. "I also believe, by the look of the people in this crowd, and people across the country, the mojo he's lost, we found. And we're going to have enough mojo to make sure Joe goes."

Mooney said the reason he ran for Congress, and why he was now running for the Senate, was to fight for individual freedoms.

"All I want for everyone is to be free. Free to make your own choices in life," Mooney said. "And it's stunning to see what the Left is doing in this country. For the past four years before Republicans took over here this year, it is as bad as you could imagine."

He talked about former President Donald Trump being removed from Twitter, he said Second Amendment rights were being stripped away and the right to be unvaccinated.

"It's ridiculous that your government tells you you have to put on a face mask and what kind of medicine you have to take," Mooney said.

Jordan told the crowd in attendance there were people in politics who they wish weren't.

"We call them Democrats," Jordan said. "There are guys like Alex Mooney who chose public service for the right reasons. Because he cares about the things that make America special. And he is doing an outstanding job, and we want him now to go to the United States Senate. He's the kind of guy you want there too."
